About KJS scheepswerken

In January 2007, Koen Jansen, set up KJS as a privately owned business.

From a young age, I have been fascinated with ships and navigation. This resulted In a course at the academy of shipbuilding in Haarlem. During this course I purchased An original tjalk hull and started the restoration work , which subsequently introduced me to Lex Tichelaar of SRF in Harlingen.

1996

After completing my course I joined SRF (as an iron worker) as a welder.

1998

I undertook the role of Captain on a 36m sailing barge, which was a charter vessel based in Harlingen. After 1 year I rejoined SRF and undertook restoration work on numerous Dutch barges.

1999

In this year I became associated with Yacht Design Gaastmeer and over a 5 year period worked on many projects such as the 'Eleonara' and the first production of a New-Build Tjalken.

2003

Joined Arend Lambrechtsen BV and was involved in the repair and maintenance of yachts, along with responsibility of the aluminium production of Skiff Riggers. During my time with this company I also had the responsibility of restoring a 15m Westlander from Houseboat back to original ship.

2004

Rejoined SRF and Lex Tichelaar to be project manager and designer for this yard, with responsibility for liasing between office and workshop.

2007

Having now attained a large quantity of knowledge and experience both in theory and practice, the formation of the new company KJS began.
